Fulton County Stadium
One of the first of the multi-purpose stadiums, but unlike its later successors of that type, it did not have artificial-turf, and did not serve as a replacement stadium for a previous classic Major League ballpark. In 1966, it became the first MLB venue to operate in the city of Atlanta. Hank Aaron hit his record 715th homerun over its left field wall on April 8th, 1974. This symmetrical stadium was called “the launching pad” as many home-team, long-ball hitters played there.
