Greenlee Field
Covering seven seasons in Pittsburgh’s Hill District for what was known as the Negro Leagues, it was the first major brick & mortar ballpark built by an African American owner, Gus Greenlee of the Pittsburgh Crawfords. Hall of Fame battery, Satchel Paige & Josh Gibson, played home games there. It had one level of stands & 7,500 capacity. Symmetrical dimensions, early era night lights, & large left field scoreboard were features. Other ballpark events included boxing, football, & soccer.
