Mile High Stadium
This Denver ballpark was constructed in 1948 as the Minor League’s Bears Stadium. The MLB expansion Rockies opened their tenancy, drawing nearly 4.5 million fans at the stadium in 1993, with a last game there in 1994, before moving to a new ballpark. It had frequent football use, large capacity, and was hitter friendly, with thin air providing great ball lift-off. A deep seat section in centerfield was called the rockpile. The same seating description continued in the Rockies new ballpark.
